Sony is to launch professional handheld digital wireless microphone DWM-30 for spring 2025.

The product will be added to Sony’s long established DWX Digital Wireless microphone series lineup, as a digital wireless microphone transmitter.

The DWM-30 succeeds the DWM-02N, widely used in professional audio environments such as broadcasting stations, live performances, and news gathering. From one model to the next, the transmission performance has been further improved, ensuring stable operation of the wireless microphone system. In addition to its user-friendly lightweight design, and approximately 6-hour battery life, the DWM-30 microphone also supports the latest codec modes. Two models of the DWM-30 will be available in Europe covering a wide bandwidth of up to 148MHz.

Key Features

Improved transmission performance for stable operation

By utilizing electromagnetic field simulation in the design, the transmission performance has been enhanced, providing more stable operation.

Realistic sound quality

By reviewing the electrical circuits and mechanical structure, the sound quality has been further improved. When used with CODEC MODE 4, the sound recorded and transmitted is more faithful to the original sound.

User-friendly lightweight design and 6-hour battery life

Optimizing the mechanical structure has resulted in a grip design that is easier to hold and approximately 10% lighter than the previous model (transmitter body weight comparison). The battery of the DWM-30 life has also been improved by approximately 1 hour compared to the previous model, achieving approximately 6 hours of continuous operation, suitable for long-term use (using alkaline batteries).

Latest codecs and channels support

In CODEC MODE 2, the new microphone delivers a low latency level of 1.2msec, it also newly supports CODEC MODE 4, which balances high-quality transmission and low latency. It supports a wide band of up to 148MHz in the TV white space band / 375kHz channel plan, allowing up to 16 channels per TV band.

Equipped with HIGH GAIN MODE

When usual settings do not deliver a sufficient level of sensitivity when capturing sounds, the HIGH GAIN MODE allows for 3-stage amplification of +6/+12/+18dB, making it possible to amplify the sound even when the microphone is held away from the mouth during recording, thus increasing sensitivity.
