Broadcast tech manufacturer Grass Valley is to shift its manufacturing operations from Newbury, Berkshire to Canada, according to a report in Newbury Today.

The Newbury HQ was formerly owned by Snell Advanced media (SAM). SAM was formed from the amalgamation of Quantel and Snell in 2014. Grass Valley took over Snell Advanced Media in 2018.

It is thought that Grass valley would still continue to provide repair services in Newbury.

In an email to employees seen by the Newbury Weekly News, Grass Valley said: “To address our overcapacity in manufacturing resulting from the industry transition and customers’ changing buying patterns, we have formally begun the consolidation of all manufacturing activities in Newbury into our underutilised manufacturing in Montreal.”

It went on to say: “We must adapt to the changing industry and to our customers’ changing needs in order to remain a strong, industry-leading, cloud-first solutions provider.

“Optimising our workforce and creating a sustainable cost structure are key steps in making this happen.”
