Indie Zig Zag has teamed with Anglo-Chinese TV producer and rights content distributor IPCN on a coproduction of a new short-form street art series for IPCN’s newly launched Chinese digital channel, Channel R.

‘The Writing’s on the Wall’ (5 x 5’) offers a whistle-stop tour of London’s radical graffiti culture centred around the theme of female empowerment.

Each episode of the documentary series features a female graffiti artist with the final instalment centring on rising UK street artist Lhouette and his female apprentice.

The series will launch on IPCN’s newly launched short-form digital channel, Channel R, available on Tencent’s WeChat platform.

Rebecca Yang, IPCN founder and chairwoman, said: “It was a fun project to explore with an established TV producer like Zig Zag Productions. Historically we have been looking at long form TV formats, so it is a great adventure and a challenge for both of us to produce short-form digital content that suits the taste of the millennials in China. We expect this mini-series to be really well received in the market especially with the focus on supporting women in arts and promoting girl power, which is very topical amongst the young fans of Channel R who have a strong opinion about gender equality.”

Matt Graff, Managing Director of Zig Zag Productions, said: “IPCN’s Channel R is a bold, adventurous and ambitious digital channel launch and we are delighted to be a part of it. Art is a universal language and the content we produced features UK-based female urban artists and tackles themes of female empowerment that we hope will resonate with Channel R’s core demographic.”

IPCN is headquartered in Shanghai with offices in London and Hong Kong.
