Nicholas Steinberg has been appointed Editor of Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch by co-producers, Expectation and Can Can Productions.

He will take up the role on the weekday lunchtime show hosted by Steph McGovern, which Channel 4 recently announced had been extended for 2022. The 100-minute daily format is broadcast live from Leeds Dock.

Steinberg launched his career on The Big Breakfast and has worked as an Executive Producer across multiple genres including entertainment, factual entertainment, reality, music, comedy and events – in studio, on location and live. He has worked on programmes for all the major broadcasters and for many high-profile production companies including stints as Creative Director at Shine TV and Executive Editor of Entertainment at Princess Productions.

Steinberg said: “I can’t wait to join Steph and the team in Leeds at what is an exciting time for the show, as it goes from strength to strength. Nothing beats the thrill of live television, so to be able to go live five days a week is a real privilege and joy.”

Rebecca Papworth, Executive Producer from Can Can Productions said: “Nicholas’ wealth of experience is unrivalled, and we are absolutely delighted to see him take over the reins of a show we’re super proud of. It’s an exciting new chapter for SPL… come on ’22.”

Ben Wicks, Executive Producer from Expectation said: “I’m elated: we have a showrunner who has the live daily Channel 4 classic The Big Breakfast baked into his DNA – which means this next chapter in the story of Steph’s Packed Lunch is sure to be a thrilling one. Nicholas’s ideas, talent and passionate desire to take the show to the next level has excited us no end, and we very much look forward to him having the same effect on the viewers.”

His credits include: studio reality shows Got To Dance for Sky and Popstars The Rivals for ITV; celebrity reality shows Dance, Dance, Dance and Reborn In The USA for ITV and Famous and Fearless, for Channel 4; factual entertainment reality shows The Face with Naomi Campbell for Sky and Five Dates a Week for Channel 4; music shows such as Bette Midler: One Night Only and he launched Popworld on Channel 4; factual shows such as The Family Brain Games for BBC Two, A and E Live for ITV and Richard and Judy: Keep Reading and Carry On for Channel 4.

Steinberg will take over running the show later this month after a brief handover period with Vivek Sharma who joined as Editor in July 2020 and leaves to become Executive Producer at News UK Broadcasting.

Steph’s Packed Lunch is produced by Expectation in partnership with West Yorkshire-based Can Can Productions. The executive producers are Rebecca Papworth for Can Can Productions and Ben Wicks for Expectation. Jayne Stanger is commissioning editor for Channel 4.
