Splice has appointed James Shannon as Head of Audio Technology.
Shannon was previously at Pinewood Studios, where he project-managed the redesign of the main dubbing theatres and worked on many Marvel productions and Jurassic World: Dominion. He started his career as a Facility Technical Manager at CTS-Lansdowne recording studios, supporting titles such as Lord of the Rings: Return of The King.
James Shannon commented, “It’s great to join Splice! A number of things attracted me to work here. It was clear that the company is dynamic, yet has a family feel, with independent owners who are passionate about quality and putting the needs of clients first. The facilities have a great vibe and are top class, which is important in my role. Also, the team is exactly the type I love to work with: hugely talented, friendly and have a passion for making great content.
I’m looking forward to working with our clients, making sure that our mixing facilities sound amazing, keeping the company at the forefront of industry advancements and ensuring that the technology supports the creativity of our teams.”
Prior to Pinewood, James Shannon was also one of the initial Dolby Atmos consultants and educators in the film, TV and music industries; he calibrated sound and projection for dubbing theatres, film premieres and film festivals, trained and lectured many industry professionals and co-wrote Dolby Atmos Home Entertainment Studio Technical Guidelines and it’s patent. Shannon worked as a Senior Sound Consultant at Dolby for nearly 11 years, working on over 170 films internationally and his credits include titles such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Alien: Covenant.
More recently he has been teaching undergraduate and masters level audio engineering for the University of Gloucestershire and doing freelance consultancy for productions such as Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Splice’s MD Richard Folley said, “I think anyone who knows James or knows of him is aware of what he brings to the team. His knowledge in audio technology is second to none and in addition to that his passion and skill in educating at all levels brings a unique combination to Splice. It didn’t take long for us to realise it would be a great fit as we strive for excellence here at Splice, James’ input will be enormous. When I say we’re delighted he’s decided to join us it is a huge understatement.”
