Passion Pictures, Propagate Content and West Buttermilk are finalising a new feature doc following the landmark murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis for the killing of Tupac Shakur 30 years ago.
The doc is filmed alongside members of the Shakur family as they lived through the courtroom drama and with unique access to those closest to events, including Mopreme Shakur, Tupac’s brother and members of Tupac’s inner circle.
On 31 August 2026, a Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder. He will be sentenced on 13 October. The doc will air on Sky in 2027.
Directed by BAFTA winning and Emmy-nominated Marian Mohamed (Defending Digga D; Cult Massacre: One Day in Jonestown), the film follows the case from the first day of evidence through the verdict and on to sentencing.
The film also features never-before-seen personal archive: intimate footage and stills from Tupac’s family and confidantes, set against the courtroom record of the trial itself. Together they reach past the myth to the man himself — an extraordinary, complicated life that came before his shocking death. Now told by the people who lived it alongside him.
“I want this film to give a voice to a family who are not just grieving, but who have taken back agency in how the murder of Tupac is viewed,” said director Marian Mohamed. “Most importantly, I want this film to make people laugh and cry and argue. I want whoever watches this to emotionally connect with not just the story of how Tupac died but with who he was.”
Hayley Reynolds, Head of Documentary Commissioning at Sky, said: “For thirty years, Tupac Shakur’s murder has been surrounded by myth, speculation and conspiracy. Marian and the team have secured extraordinary access to his family and those closest to the case, capturing this historic moment as it unfolded and we’re excited to be bringing this powerful film to Sky Documentaries.”
Creative Director of Passion Pictures Hamish Fergusson said: “It’s thrilling and profound to be truly inside this extraordinary chapter in the Tupac story as it unfolds, with unique access and an incredible filmmaking team. We feel very privileged to be making this doc”
“Few mysteries have captured public curiosity quite like the murder of Tupac.” said Howard T. Owens, Co-CEO of Propagate Content. “This remarkable film takes audiences inside this extraordinary moment with the people who have lived with the questions, the loss, and the search for answers from the very beginning.”
This documentary was commissioned for Sky by Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director, Unscripted Originals at Sky for Cécile Frot-Coutaz, Chief Advertising and Content Officer, CEO Sky Studios. The Head of Documentary Commissioning is Hayley Reynolds and the Commissioning Editor for Sky is Bruce Fletcher.
The film is a Passion Pictures production with Propagate Content and West Buttermilk, produced for Passion by Charlotte Rodrigues and Executive Produced for Passion by Hamish Fergusson, Will Anderson and David Moulton. Executive producers are Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Drew Buckley, and Taylor Levin for Propagate Content; James Packer for West Buttermilk.
