UK entertainment format creator Rochford Productions and John de Mol’s Talpa have joined to create songwriting competition format I Want Your Song.

This summer SBS6 in the Netherlands will launch the format, which features five unknown songwriters pitching an original song written by themselves to some of the biggest artists in the Netherlands.

Each episode features one prominent Dutch recording artist who is looking for their next big hit listening to the pitches. The audience is filled with 100 of the artist’s biggest fans.  If the artist is in doubt over a song, they can ask the fans for advice. The winning song chosen at the end of the episode, is immediately available for download and streaming accompanied with a music video.

Rochford’s executive producer Chris Hopkins says: “This is a new route into the music industry for all our potential singer songwriters. Their ability to write an original hit song for someone else could change their life forever.”

I Want Your Song is a format created by Rochford Productions and Talpa Concepts. The show is produced by Talpa Entertainment Productions and distributed by Talpa Distribution.

Geertje Hoek, managing director of Talpa Concepts adds: “Working together with creatives from outside of our own company on creating new formats is something we focus on more than ever. Seeing ideas transform to formats and then hit the screen is what makes us all tick here at Talpa.”
