Andy Sockanathan has joined Banijay UK label RDF as head of development.

He joins from ITV Studios label Potato, where for the last three years he headed-up the quiz and game development team. In this role he co-created Beat The Chasers (ITV) and Winning Combination (ITV). He is also credited for co-creating Tenable (ITV) during a period working at Initial.

At the same time RDF has appointed James Smales as senior development producer. Smales previously worked at Hungry Bear, Bandicoot and Triple Brew Media. He is credited as co-creator for The Answer Trap (Channel 4) and was a development producer for The Masked Singer UK (ITV), Lingo in the UK (ITV) & USA (CBS), The Million Pound Cube (ITV) and Test Drive (BBC Scotland).

Reporting to RDF creative director Rachel Arnold and creative director of Development Jon Green, Sockanathan and Smales will initially focus on developing new quiz and game show formats for UK broadcasters and global SVOD platforms.

“The opportunity to build a brand-new team at the home of Tipping Point and Only Connect was too hard to turn down,” says Sockanathan. “We want to be the one-stop-shop for quiz and game on all platforms.”
