Prime Video has revealed the official teaser trailer for its first Irish original comedy series, LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland, ahead of the series global launch on 19th January 2024.
Produced by Kite Entertainment, the indie behind Gogglebox Ireland and Ireland’s Got Talent, the hit format – where comedians are brought together to make each other laugh without cracking a smile themselves – originated in Japan. It has been remade in Europe in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden.
Executive producers for the Irish version are Darren Smith and Mairéad Whelan. Series producer is David Noble. Story producer is Stephen Bradley and director is Danny Tate.
The series will feature host Graham Norton and comedians Aisling Bea, Amy Huberman, Catherine Bohart, David McSavage, Deirdre O’Kane, Emma Doran, Jason Byrne, Martin Angolo, Paul Tylak, and Tony Cantwell. The grand prize is €50,000 for their charity of choice.
The fan-favourite LOL: Last One Laughing format has become the most watched title of all time on Prime Video in Italy, France, and Germany, and had successful local versions in Mexico, Australia, India, Spain, Canada, The Netherlands, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, and Sweden.
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland is the latest title on the UK and Ireland Original slate on Prime Video, along with new UK-produced series and movies launching across 2023 and 2024. These include 007’s Road to a Million, an unscripted adventure series inspired by James Bond; psychological thriller and twisted love story Wilderness; Fifteen-Love, a drama series set in the world of elite tennis; How To Date Billy Walsh, a rom-com movie; stranger-than-fiction docuseries The Greatest Show Never Made and Fake Sheikh.
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland will join Irish and UK-produced Amazon Originals such as Clarkson’s Farm, The Grand Tour, All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur, All or Nothing: Arsenal, The Devil’s Hour, Mammals, Jungle and James May: Our Man In Italy. U.S. hits like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys and Reacher, Gen V, Daisy Jones and The Six, as well as exclusive TV shows like Star Trek: Picard, Nine Perfect Strangers, and Little Fires Everywhere; movies like Shotgun Wedding, My Policeman, Thirteen Lives and BAFTA-nominated Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, plus live sport including live coverage of Premier League football matches. Prime Video recently announced LOL: Last One Laughing South Africa will be its first South African Original, hosted by Trevor Noah. LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland is the latest adaptation of the successful Prime Video series in Japan, Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo, where Matsumoto leads 10 comedians in an anything goes “battle of laughter behind closed doors.”
