There were British winners at this year’s Oscars across One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value, F1 and Frankenstein.

At the Awards, Ireland’s Jessie Buckley took the best actress award for her performance in Hamnet, the film produced by Liza Marshall at Hera Pictures and Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Productions alongside Steven Spielberg (Amblin Entertainment), and Nicolas Gonda (Book of Shadows). Hamnet lost out for Best Picture.

The Best Picture Award went to One Battle After Another. British American producer Adam Somner produced the film alongside Paul Thomas Anderson and Sara Murphy. Somner won the award posthumously after his death in 2024.

The international film award went to Sentimental Value where BBC Film was one of the Joachim Trier-directed film’s backers.

Sound mixer Gareth John was part of the team that was awarded the best sound Oscar for Apple TV movie F1.

UK born Mike Hill picked up a Best Make Up and Hairstyling award for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

The BBC Storyville-backed Mr Nobody Against Putin, directed by Pavel Talankin, won the Best Documentary Oscar.

Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo, both nominated for their supporting roles in Sinners, were pipped at the post as was Nina Gold in the Best casting award for Hamnet.

Alice Felton also missed out on the Best Production Design award for her work on Hamnet. The music awards saw both Jerskin Fendrix for Bugonia and Jonny Greenwood for One Battle After Another miss the top spot as did the vfx teams for The Lost Bus, Jurassic World Rebirth and F1.
