Julie Meldal-Johnsen has joined ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) as Director of Global Content.

The internal appointment will see Meldal-Johnsen lead ITVS GE’s programme acquisitions, co-productions and content strategy along with managing the distributor’s relationships with producers.

Meldal-Johnsen was most recently Senior Executive Vice President of Scripted and Business Development, ITV Studios America and will relocate to the UK for her new role. She will report to Ruth Berry, Managing Director, ITVS GE.

Berry said: “I have worked with Julie for several years now and have always been impressed by her knowledge of the global market and wide ranging relationships. Her experience of the US, from both a creative and business perspective, sets her up brilliantly for this role. As I focus my energy on the next phase of ITVS GE’s strategy, I’m particularly pleased to be passing on the global content baton to Julie.”

Meldal-Johnsen role at ITV Studios America included the management of ITV Studios America’s first look deals with One Two Punch and Hoodlum. In addition, Meldal-Johnsen oversaw, for ITV Studios America, the development and production of scripted projects across ITV America’s group of companies, including Good Witch (Hallmark Channel), Texas Rising (History) and the first season of Aquarius (NBC).

Before this Meldal-Johnsen held a variety of senior roles at ITV including EVP, Operations, ITV Studios US Group, where she managed Group operations and implemented strategy and Director of Legal & Business Affairs, ITV Studios International.

Meldal-Johnsen initially joined Carlton plc in 2001, which merged with Granada in 2004, to form ITV. Prior to that she trained and worked at London City law firm Theodore Goddard, specialising in Intellectual Property.

Ronan Hand continues to manage ITVS GE’s unscripted acquisitions, with Kate Barnes managing scripted. Both will report to Meldal-Johnsen when she joins ITVS GE in early January.
