Post house Gorilla’s training arm, Gorilla Academy, has won the ScreenSkills tender to deliver ‘Cutting Content in the Digital Age’, a new fully-funded, in-person training programme designed to expand the skills of freelance editors working in unscripted television.
As production companies increasingly manage more of their own social media and digital output, editors are being asked to shape the same source material for a much wider range of audiences and platforms. The course will explore the creative nuances of cutting content for social media, podcasts, vodcasts and other digital outputs—and how those choices differ from a traditional broadcast edit.
Practical sessions using Adobe Premiere Pro will examine platform-specific storytelling, pacing, duration and aspect ratios, alongside captions, sound and picture considerations, technical specifications, workflows and master delivery requirements. The programme will also cover the different demands of audio-only and visual audiences, as well as the growing role of AI tools in the edit.
Aimed at freelance edit assistants, junior editors, assistant producers, producer/editors, sound editors and picture editors working in unscripted programme-making, the training will help participants respond to a production landscape in which broadcast-quality material must increasingly work across television, streaming, social media and other digital channels.
The programme will be delivered in person across Bristol, London, Glasgow, Manchester and Cardiff and will run between October 2026 and March 2027.
