Amazon’s free streaming service, Freevee, has made a direct to series order for an American remake of Robert Popper’s Friday Night Dinner.

Dinner With the Parents will be set in the USA  but filmed in the UK and produced by Big Talk and CBS Studios.

Like the UK version, which ran for 10 years on Channel 4, the show centres on two brothers in their 20s who go to their parent’s for dinner each week.

The 10-episode series will be exec produced by Jon Beckerman, Kenton Allen, Matthew Justice, Robert Popper and Caroline Leddy.

Jon Beckerman will be the showrunner with Tristram Shapeero on board as director/exec producer.

The critically acclaimed UK series starred Simon Bird, Tom Rosenthal, Tamsin Greig, Paul Ritter and Mark Heap. It ended in 2021 after the sixth season following the death of Ritter.

The Freevee order follows several attempts to make a US version over the years by both CBS and NBC.
