Wendy Darke, former Head of the BBC Natural History Unit, has launched True to Nature, a new Bristol based independent production company.

True to Nature will specialise in the development and production of natural history content for global broadcasters and platforms.

True to Nature said it aims to deliver ground breaking new formats using innovative production techniques. Darke also intends to build on her experience in bringing the high quality production values of natural history to other areas including specialist factual, drama and entertainment.

Darke also confirmed the first in a series of new hires joining the launch team. Helena Berglund will join True to Nature as Head of Production, with over 15 years experience across a diverse range of genres. She managed the Natural World strand for the BBC and was instrumental in developing CBBC’s Deadly brand.

Also joining the company is Jody Bourton as Development Producer, with credits including River Monsters for Animal Planet and Nature’s Weirdest Events for BBC2. Further appointments will be announced in the coming months.
