Curve Media and SandStone Global are teaming up to produce a six-part history travel format Secrets of the City for Channel 4, with historian and author Bettany Hughes.

Hughes will visit six  cities, including Athens, Sofia, Dubrovnik, with its pivotal role as a hinge between East and West, and Riga, with its hidden underground tunnels. With the help of local experts, from academics and archivists to residents, each episode unfolds like a historical investigation.

The project was ordered by Rachel Bailey for Channel 4 with a pre-sale to SBS Australia, in deals brokered by Marmalade Sky TV.

Bettany Hughes, SandStone Global Creative Director, historian and Series Presenter says: ‘We’re delighted to be partnering with Curve Media, Channel 4 and SBS Australia on this ambitious new series to reveal the remarkable stories of some of the most iconic and fascinating cities, uncovering their hidden secrets. It is always a joy to bring layers of human history to light.”

Camilla Lewis, Curve Media co-CEO says “Curve are thrilled to launch our partnership with Bettany and Sandstone with this exciting new format that will unearth extraordinary revelations about some of the world’s most-loved cities.”

Executive Producers will be Charlie Bunce for Curve and Nick Catliff for Sandstone.
