Channel 4 has appointed Andy Brereton as Senior Commissioning Editor, Comedy.

He will report into newly appointed Head of Comedy Charlie Perkins and joins Commissioning Editor Laura Riseam and Commissioning Executive Joe Hullait.

Brereton joins Channel 4 from Shiny Button Productions – a company he established with Tom Davis and James De Frond – where he was co-Managing Director. The company produced shows such as King Gary, Murder They Hope, upcoming Amazon comedy film Your Christmas or Mine and Channel 4’s The Curse.  Prior to that he was Head of Development at Tiger Aspect, creating the BAFTA winning Murder in Successville, Crackanory, Murder on the Blackpool Express and Drunk History.

Charlie Perkins, Channel 4 Head of Comedy said: “Andy’s a triple threat and I’m thrilled to have him joining our team. He brings with him an incredible track record for conceiving, marshalling and delivering inventive shows which push the boundaries of scripted comedy. He’s passionate about comedy in all its guises and he’s a good and kind person who I’m really looking forward to working with.”

Andy Brereton said: “I am delighted to be moving to Channel 4. Charlie is someone who has comedy in her heart and soul. She thinks differently and I was thrilled when she asked me to join her team.

“From Phoenix Nights to We Are Lady Parts, Channel 4 has always been the place to make unique comedy for everyone. It has nurtured comedy talent both in front and behind the camera and I can’t wait to get started in doing the same.

“I have loved every minute at Shiny Button with Tom and James, forging a great place to work for creative people. Growing ideas, talent and vision. I plan to use these skills to support our amazing indie community in producing their best ideas, and help shape Charlie’s new vision for Channel 4 Comedy.

He joins later this year.
