Blink director Dougal Wilson is behind Channel 4’s stunning Paralympics trailer, We’re The Superhumans

The film features a cast of more than 140 people across 10 different countries all with varying disabilities.

Unlike 2012, We’re The Superhumans features not only Paralympic athletes but also musicians and members of the public from all walks of life.

Of the 100 plus people who feature most prominently in the ad, 17 are musicians, 39 are Paralympians and 53 are non-athletes. Those featured range from a drummer with no arms, to a blind sprinter, to a woman flying a plane with her feet.

Casting such a large and diverse group of people from across the globe was no mean feat with many hours of research – searching online, following leads, doing Skype castings – followed by in-person auditions to find the perfect cast. Filming 140 plus cast meant schedules had to be tight and vigorously planned.

Wilson said: “This was a fantastic project to be involved in, with a great atmosphere that affected the entire cast and crew. It was a wonderful experience to meet our incredibly talented cast, and to craft a story and record a song that gives such a positive message. It was also great to work with 4creative, all in all one of the best projects that i’ve ever been involved in.”

The ad is set to the Sammy Davis Jr track, ‘Yes I Can’, which was re-recorded by the specially assembled band of disabled musicians drawn from around the world and featured in the ad as ‘The Superhumans Band’, featuring lead vocalist Tony Dee.
