BBC Studios Productions’ Factual chief, Tom McDonald, has finalised his new leadership team by appointing Nicola Pinn as Director of Production, and hiring ICM Partners’ Ian Moffitt in the new role of Director of Commercial & Business Development.

Pinn’s role will be responsible for production management as well as being a key strategic voice across the three Factual production units – the Natural History Unit, the Science Unit and the Documentary Unit. She has worked in senior factual programming at the BBC for the past 15 years, as well as spearheading digital and technical innovation. Pinn has most recently been working within The Natural History Unit as its Head of Production.

Moffitt joins from the London arm of Los Angeles-based talent agency ICM Partners where for the last four years he has been an agent representing UK and European production companies as well as documentary directors.

He will be charged with ensuring that the Factual business continues to grow both in the UK and globally, with a particular emphasis on working closely with McDonald and his creative heads to grow IP as well as forging both deeper and new relationships with US buyers. He will also be charged with transforming how Factual works with key creative talent on and off screen.

Moffitt started his career on the Carlton Graduate Management scheme and for the first 10 years of his career worked in business development and commercial roles. In 2006, he moved to Los Angeles to run Transend, an international rights joint venture between Endeavor and IMG before spending four years at BBC Worldwide Productions LA. Moffitt has also worked at Machinima and Yahoo in commissioning and programming roles.

Tom McDonald, Managing Director of Factual, BBC Studios Productions, says: “Nicola and Ian’s appointments complete the new leadership team and bolster Factual Productions for future growth. Their experience speaks for itself and they are game changers in production and commercial.”

Nicola Pinn added: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to take on this new role at such an exciting time for Factual productions and BBC Studios. I’m passionate about providing an environment where creativity can flourish, production management can excel, and our business can really thrive.”

Ian Moffitt commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining Tom and his team at what is an exciting time for the business as it continues its period of stellar growth. I look forward to helping build on existing slate and forging new commercial and creative initiatives and partnerships in the UK, the US and beyond.”

Pinn takes up her new role immediately whilst Moffitt joins BBC Studios Productions on May 4th.
