Nordic crime series The Uniform is set to launch on BBC iPlayer and BBC Four in the UK following a deal with Fremantle.
Produced by Fremantle’s Miso Film (Those Who Kill, Face to Face, The Investigation) and directed by Jonas Alexander Arnby (The Helicopter Heist, Blinded: Those Who Kill) the 6 x 60 drama “exposes the deadly cost of loyalty and corruption within a fractured and fiercely competitive police academy in contemporary Denmark.”
A young trainee fires his weapon. One man is dead. And inside Denmark’s police academy, the fallout is immediate and explosive. As the story makes headlines, public outrage and political pressure ignite a war over who controls the future of policing.
Caught in the eye of the storm is Youssef, played by Soheil Bavi (The Legend, Crossing Lines), a rising star whose dream of becoming an officer is shattered by the shooting. With the academy in lockdown and blame spreading like wildfire, his bond with fellow trainee Daniel, played by Marco Ilsø (Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead, Vikings), fractures under suspicion, while his growing connection with first-year Freja, played by Clara Rosager (Lost: Those Who Kill, Morbius), threatens to expose deeper secrets.
Above it all is Sanne Hammerby, played by Lene Maria Christensen (The Excavation, Pros and Cons), the academy’s new principal, brought in to clean house. But when old loyalties clash with new ideals, her mission to reform the institution turns into a quest for the truth.
Jamie Lynn, EVP, Co-Production & Distribution, EMEA, International, Fremantle said: “The Uniform delivers everything you’d want from a standout crime drama – complex characters, a tense coming-of-age story, and a fresh take on law enforcement that really sets it apart. Miso are true experts in their field and, alongside an exceptional creative team, have delivered a compelling series that has already performed incredibly well in Denmark, with ratings that speak for themselves. Given the success of Miso’s acclaimed titles The Investigation and Those Who Kill with BBC audiences, we’re confident this series will resonate just as strongly.”
Nick Lee, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “With its moral complexity and depth of character The Uniform is a confident and deeply engaging drama. Audiences will be drawn into the world of elite rookie cops, all with that trademark Scandinavian prestige our viewers love.”
The Uniform is produced by Sofie Bergstein, Jonas Allen, and Peter Bose for Miso Film. It is written by Oscar Giese (2 Days) and Anders August (The Quiet Ones, A Fortunate Man) and directed by Jonas Alexander Arnby. Fremantle handles international sales.
