Bristol-based Wounded Buffalo Sound Studios has launched Odysso, a new nature sound experience created from authentic recordings of real environments.
The new venture draws on Wounded Buffalo’s three decades of work across landmark natural-history and factual productions, applying the studio’s sound design expertise to “authored listening experiences for rest, focus and connection with nature.”
Over the years, Wounded Buffalo has worked on the sound of a host of natural history award winners including Earthsounds, Planet Earth, Frozen Planet and Blue Planet.
Each Odysso experience is “constructed as a journey through a particular place and time. Wildlife, weather, landscape and atmosphere develop around the listener, rather than repeating as a static loop or conventional background track.”
The project is being developed across several connected areas, including a dedicated audio app and potential immersive visual formats. Wounded Buffalo is currently holding early discussions with prospective investors and production partners.
The Odysso website has launched alongside a free introductory journey on Spotify and an early-access list for future releases and project updates.

Odysso is an opportunity to take that specialist craft beyond the screen and explore what happens when sound becomes the main dominant sense.
“We live in a highly visual, constantly stimulated world, but listening can create a very different kind of connection. Natural sound can draw attention to scale, distance, movement, weather and animal activity in a way that feels immediate and deeply transportive.
“Each Odysso experience is built as a journey rather than a loop. It moves through landscape and time, allowing the environment to reveal itself gradually around the listener.
“This is the first public stage of the project. We are now beginning conversations around the development of the app, future listening experiences and the potential for the idea to extend into immersive visual formats.”
Odysso is being created by the team at Wounded Buffalo Sound Studios, whose work has been recognised by BAFTA, Emmy, RTS and Golden Reel juries.
The studio’s natural-history credits span productions for broadcasters and platforms including the BBC, Netflix, Apple TV+, National Geographic and Disney.
The first free Odysso journey is available on Spotify.
