Warner Bros. Discovery has ordered original crime thriller series Sherlock & Daughter, created, written and exec produced by Northern Ireland’s Brendan Foley (Cold Courage, The Man Who Died)  it stars David Thewlis (Fargo, Landscapers, The Artful Dodger) as the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. It will air on streaming service discovery+ later this year.

The series, co-produced in the UK by Starlings Distribution’s affiliate Albion Television with co-production partner StoryFirst, is  shooting in Ireland. It was ordered by Clare Laycock, SVP Networks & Digital Content at Warner Bros. Discovery. It was commissioned for discovery+ by Charlotte Reid, VP Commissioning at Warner Bros. Discovery, with co-financiers Krempelwood.

The eight part series features an older Sherlock Holmes, less confident and out of his comfort zone. The renowned detective finds himself mysteriously unable to investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends.

Meanwhile young American, Amelia, played by Blu Hunt (The Originals, The Mutants) learns her missing father may be the esteemed detective, after her mother’s shocking and unexplainable murder.

Dougray Scott (A Town Called Malice, Vigil, Crime) also stars in the series as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.

Sherlock battles between his intellect and his emotion when he is confronted with this young woman claiming to be his daughter. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, Amelia proves herself essential to cracking the case as the pair work together to solve a global conspiracy, the mystery of her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. Will she lead to his redemption?
