The 50th James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture at this year’s Edinburgh Television Festival was presented by James Harding, Co-Founder of Tortoise Media and Editor-in-Chief of The Observer.
Harding’s career spans being Director of News and Current Affairs at the BBC and Editor of The Times.
The lecture takes in the current and future impact of online technology platforms and AI, particularly on the veracity of news sources, ahead of an impassioned defence of the BBC from the societal and cultural importance of the BBC’s editorial remit to political independence.
