Sky Arts has commissioned Wall to Wall to produce a 4×60 series about the art of drumming provisionally titled Give The Drummer Some.

The series features some of the world’s greatest drummers, “unlocking the secrets of their playing to reveal the beats, grooves and styles underpinning popular music.”

The show combines interviews, demonstrations and performances and will join the dots between early rock’n’roll, jazz, soul and funk, reggae, rock and metal, revealing the rhythmic links between them.  The series will aim to uncover the ‘music’ of drumming: the orchestration of fills and breaks, how drumming can reflect and shape the emotion of a song; and how drummers elevate the art of drumming beyond bashing out simple backbeats. The final programme will celebrate the twenty most important drummers ever – as selected by the cast.

Director of Sky Arts Phil Edgar-Jones said: “At Sky Arts we always want to get under the skin of the craft that goes into all cultural genres and with  ‘Give The Drummer Some’ we aim to uncover the art of the beat with the best exponents of rhythm the world has to offer. It’s toe tapping TV at it’s very best.”

The commissioning editor is Barbara Lee. Series producer and director Chris Wilson, exec is Chris Lent and series consultant Steve White.
