Led by VFX Supervisor Tiago Faria, BlueBolt delivered 163 VFX shots to support the eerie and dramatic narrative for the fourth series of HBO’s crime drama anthology True Detective: Night Country.

Set and shot mainly at night time the VFX work required a high level of realism. BlueBolt’s work was focused on invisible environment work, including the large Silver Sky mine, with CG buildings and all outdoor facilities, grounds and vehicles; a frozen CG shipwreck in the Arctic – for which the team built a completely new shipwreck to take over from a partial set piece; a gruesome open head wound with realistic bone/skull and gore work in addition to a range of 2D enhancements including snow, frozen breath shots, set extensions of shafts, collapsed ice tunnels and destroyed mine entrance, as well as smoke addition and de-aging.
