Black Kite Studios has released a behind-the-scenes VFX breakdown reel showcasing its work on the Stranger Things x KFC campaign, created for Mother and KFC in partnership with Netflix.

Directed by Nick Roney through Prod Co., the project launched to coincide with the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

The campaign reimagines KFC as Hawkins Fried Chicken, seamlessly integrating the brand into the iconic world of Stranger Things. The spot places a group of Hawkins kids into a scenario designed to replicate the series’ distinctive visual language—blending grounded realism with the show’s signature surreal and unsettling atmosphere.

At the heart of the film is a high-stakes delivery journey, as a lone courier navigates a landscape overrun by military roadblocks and supernatural threats. To realise the escalating chaos of the Upside Down, Black Kite Studios created a fully CG 1980s-era KFC restaurant, both interior and exterior, set within an entirely CG forest environment inspired by the Stranger Things universe. The sequence features extensive atmospheric effects, debris and environmental simulations, and a relentless Mind Flayer rift that stalks the protagonist, threatening to pull both courier and cargo into the Upside Down.
