Unscripted indie, Deep Fusion Films, “a leading pioneer in the ethical application of AI within television and film”, has appointed Christian Darkin as its new Head of Creative AI.

This hire “underscores the company’s commitment to leading the industry with innovative, ethically driven AI solutions.”

Darkin will report directly to Benjamin Field, co-founder and Executive Producer at Deep Fusion Films.

In his new role Darkin will lead the development and creation of artificial intelligence software and visuals for Deep Fusion’s slate.

Darkin previously led Anachronistic Animation and has delivered work for the BBC as well as for Raindance-nominated sci-fi features. His projects, such as the deepfakes for Gerry Anderson: A Life Uncharted, have earned him a position in the Synthetic Media Research Group at Reading University.

“Having Christian on board is a game-changer for us,” says Benjamin Field, co-founder and Executive Producer at Deep Fusion Films. “His expertise in AI integration aligns perfectly with our mission to push the boundaries of content creation while maintaining the highest standards; his vision for blending technology with artistry is exactly what the industry needs right now.”

“I’m honoured to join a company that is as passionate about ethical AI as I am,” says Darkin. “I look forward to contributing to Deep Fusion Film’s next chapter as we, together, explore uncharted territories and shape the future of entertainment.”

The news follows the company expanding its executive team this year, appointing Niki Page as Senior Vice President of Commercial and Partnerships, and it is currently in production across projects including Hammer: Heroes, Legends and Monsters for Sky, which celebrates the 90th anniversary of the iconic horror studio Hammer Films, and is in development on a feature documentary Hunt: We Need to Talk About James, “offering an unprecedented look at the life of the Formula One legend James Hunt.”
