UNIT Design Collective delivered design and animation for around 200 shots for sci-fi Thriller The Creator, which is released in cinemas today, Friday 29th September.

The Creator is an epic sci-fi action thriller set amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla), the film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan and Ken Watanabe.

The 200 shots are a mix of generic technology interfaces as well as narrative-led interaction systems from the main screens in the enemy control room, medical scans and devices, weapons UI, vehicle and hand held UI. Just about anything that contained a screen in any given shot.

UNIT Creative Director, Tom Wansbrough-Jones says: “This project was really a dream come true as the team are all big fans of this near future AI science fiction action thriller. Working directly with the Director, Gareth Edwards, was a smooth process as he has a keen eye and long standing expertise in graphic design. He is someone who really knew exactly what he wanted, but also allowed us to gain his trust by taking on a brief with an experimental approach. This collaboration was critical in our ability to come up with the design and animation that felt authentic and credible within each and every scene in the movie.”
