Twofour has produced a new 3 x 60’ series, Million Pound Pawn for ITV.
As the country faces unprecedented financial uncertainty, the series aims to reveal the emotional and financial stakes at play in the hidden world of pawnbroking.
Each episode opens the door on a fast moving industry which historically thrives during times of recession, telling the story of people with incredible assets and the eye-watering stakes at play; for both the owners and pawnbrokers trying to close the deal and make a profit. Everyday across the country, Britain’s pawnbrokers buy, sell and loan against over a million pounds worth of extraordinary assets – from helicopters to houseboats, designer watches to the family jewels, people across the country are sitting on a veritable gold mine of belongings, and as access to money dries up many are turning to Britain’s pawnbrokers to help transform their prized possessions into cash.
Nic Patten, Head of Factual Entertainment, Twofour, says: “With our compelling line up of characterful pawnbrokers and their customers, Million Pound Pawn gives a fascinating insight into the vast array of possessions exchanging hands every week, as well as the surprising and heartfelt stories behind these deals. From an entrepreneur looking to save their business, to a mum hoping to fund medical treatment for her son, Million Pound Pawn gives a glimpse into our society and how finances and priorities have changed since the start of the pandemic.”
Million Pound Pawn is commissioned by Satmohan Panesar. The Executive Producers are David Clews and Nic Patten. The Series Producer is Naomi Templeton. Twofour is part of ITV Studios.
