Documentary producer True Vision has appointed Frank MacDonald as its new Director of Development.
MacDonald joins from Mercury Studios (Universal Music Group), where he served as Head of Development, spearheading a slate of premium documentaries and factual series for global platforms.
His career has included senior roles at Pulse Films, Firecrest Films, and Zinc Media where he has developed documentaries and factual series for major broadcasters and streamers.
At True Vision, MacDonald will play a key role in shaping the company’s future slate, identifying high-impact factual content for a growing range of platforms. His appointment follows the recent hire of Mark Roberts as Creative Director.
MacDonald’s recent portfolio includes the award-winning My Life as a Rolling Stone (BBC/MGM), and the upcoming theatrical release of the definitive Metallica feature documentary.
“This is an exciting time for factual TV, and True Vision has always been at the forefront of bold storytelling,” said MacDonald. “With an extraordinary team and a legacy of hard-hitting films, I’m thrilled to help shape its future—expanding the company’s premium factual slate and delivering high-impact stories for global audiences.”
Brian Woods said, “I’m delighted we’ve been able to persuade Frank to join us. His creativity and deep experience across broadcasters and streamers alike will greatly enhance True Vision’s ability to broaden our production portfolio, while sticking to our core mission of making award-winning blue chip films that make a difference.”
Jezza Neuman added, “It’s exciting times at True Vision. Frank not only brings a wealth of experience—he also brings new energy to development, boosting our excellent team.”
Mark Roberts, Creative Director, added: “I am delighted to be reunited with Frank. The smartest commissioners know that the right project demands extraordinary access, vivid narrative, and world-class talent. The combination of True Vision and Frank’s creativity and commitment sets up an exciting future.”
True Vision is soon to make “further strategic hires” as the company “strengthens its slate across premium documentary filmmaking and cutting-edge factual.”
