Post house StormHD has just completed a major upgrade of its editing and audio facilities.
There’s been an upgrade of the existing 10 Media Composer edit suites to the latest HP Z4 workstations, with P2000 graphics cards and 32GB memory. In a deal sealed at BVE, Altered Images provided the new hardware and system preparation for a swap over from the old systems including connectivity to Storm’s 100TB Avid shared storage platform.
Storm Co-owner Paul Ingvarsson says “ These Z4 systems are incredibly rapid and can easily cope with multiple streams of full resolution media which is perfect for our strategy of employing a full resolution workflow across our projects. Combined with our multiple Avid shared storage systems we can also load balance complicated multi camera edits to provide the best experience in the edit suites – the editors will certainly notice a difference!”
Alongside the upgrade of the editing suites Storm has also upgraded its mixing studios. New hardware running ProTools 12 has been installed in both studios by HHB which improves collaboration with the picture finishing team and the latest version of Media Composer. Storm’s remote studio also saw the addition of the Avid S3 desk and Protools Dock . Both suites have also been furnished with 65 inch LG OLED screens that can be matched to the pictures provided by the picture finishing team.
Storm Dubbing Mixer and Co-owner Tim Wheeler says “The new Mac hardware along with ProTools 12 has proved to be a major improvement to our workflow, we can now directly connect to the pictures from our finishing suites, but the most impressive revelation is mixing to the graded pictures on the LG screens – The clients love the consistency in picture quality across all of the suites!”
