Sony Pictures Television and Eleventh Hour Films have announced a tripartite First Look collaboration with Tobi Olujinmi’s black female-led scripted television label Hill 5.14.
Hill 5.14 was launched in late 2022 by Tobi Olujinmi, a creative producer and former development producer at Eleventh Hour Films, to be a new scripted TV and audio label, producing distinctive ‘light on a hill’ content for global audiences. The new independent production company was selected by Channel 4’s Emerging Indie Fund to receive support and boost the growth of the business. Through its first year and a half Hill 5.14 has won multiple funded and advanced developments across both UK and international networks and streaming platforms.
Hill 5.14 has already collaborated with writers such as Phoebe Okeowo (‘The Power’), Bella Heesom (‘Sex Education’), Victoria Asare-Archer (‘Missing You’) and Thara Poopla (‘Sex Education’). The company has attracted on screen talent including Weruche Opia (‘I May Destroy You’), Adelayo Adebayo (‘The Responder’) and Adjoa Andoh (‘Bridgerton’) – who also fronts the Hill 5.14 produced podcast ‘Discover Me’.
EHF will have a first look option to co-develop and co-produce television projects on the Hill 5.14 slate, with SPT acting as distributor for these projects. This joint collaborative arrangement with SPT and EHF follows the news this summer that SPT has increased investment in EHF, further deepening ties with the company by making them a majority-backed outfit in SPT’s International Production Group.
Tobi Olujinmi, Founder & Executive Producer, Hill 5.14, says “I am beyond thrilled to be working with Sony Pictures and EHF for the next phase of Hill 5.14’s journey. It’s the dream team. Their joint expertise, experience and track record of delivering exceptional drama will help in building Hill 5.14 as a global production company. One which houses some of the best global diverse storytellers and takes our stories which were once hidden and places them like a light on a hill for the global marketplace”.
Paula Cuddy, Co-CEO and Creative Director; and Eve Gutierrez, Co-CEO and Executive Producer, Eleventh Hour Films, says “From the moment we met Tobi we loved her dynamic outlook, enterprise, and creative sensibilities. Instinctively we knew she’d do all she could as a producer to make things happen – and so as a co-producer EHF is delighted to continue the journey with Tobi as she leads Hill 5.14 onwards into this exciting chapter”.
Matthew Justice, EVP, Head of UK & Europe, Sony Pictures Television, says “Telling stories which have the capacity to open eyes, showcase talent, and connect with audiences the world over is what we love at Sony Pictures, and Tobi has built a company in Hill 5.14 which has quickly become a home for great talent. We look forward to seeing what she and her team produce working alongside the estimable talents of our own Eleventh Hour, and hope this to be the beginning of a fantastic and exciting collaboration”.
