Sony Pictures Television has signed an overall development deal with British author and historian Dan Jones, which will see him develop adaptations of his works for option by SPT’s stable of international scripted production companies, including Left Bank Pictures and the recently acquired Eleven, as well as offering his unique insight and expertise on other productions across the group.

Jones is a bestselling historian, TV presenter and award-winning journalist. His books, which have sold more than a million copies worldwide, include THE PLANTAGENETS and THE TEMPLARS – both New York Times and Sunday Times bestsellers. He has also written books about the Peasants’ Revolt and Magna Carta, 2019’s CRUSADERS, and with Marina Amaral co-authored the Sunday Times bestseller THE COLOUR OF TIME, as well as his latest book THE WORLD AFLAME: THE LONG WAR 1914-1945, published in April 2020. He has written and presented more than 60 hours of TV documentaries, including the popular Netflix/Channel 5 series SECRETS OF GREAT BRITISH CASTLES.

Wayne Garvie, President, International Production, Sony Pictures Television, said, “Dan has written some of the most popular histories of our time. Through him, readers around the world have discovered anew the Crusaders, Knights Templar, the Plantagenets and seen the past come alive in colour. He has a terrific slate of future projects and our great range of companies are the perfect companions to bring his ideas to the screen.”

Dan Jones said: “In a world rocked by massive global change there has never been a better time to make sense of it through history’s greatest stories. I have always written my books with a cinematic sensibility, so I’m delighted to have made a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop my stories old and new for the screen. Joining the Sony family and working with this incredible group of producers is a dream come true.”
