Sky has appointed Hidden Light’s Siobhan Sinnerton as Creative Director of ‘Full Story Films’, the new brand for the long-form documentary production unit within Sky News.

Reporting into David Rhodes, Sky News Group Executive Chairman, Full Story Films is an arm of the brand, drawing on Sky News’ journalism in the UK and around the world as well as its extensive archive.

Sinnerton, who commissioned the Grierson-winning ‘Lyra’, joins from HiddenLight Productions, where she has developed, and executive produced critically acclaimed documentaries including the Emmy-winning ‘In Her Hands’ for Netflix.

In her previous role as Commissioning Editor for News and Current Affairs at Channel 4, she commissioned the BAFTA-winning ‘Myanmar’s Killing Fields’, the Oscar-nominated ‘For Sama’, as well as overseeing dozens of films and series, including Dispatches and Unreported World.

Sinnerton will be responsible for shaping and implementing the editorial and creative strategy for Full Story Films. Full Story is a new brand identity for the editorial unit that operates within Sky’s news group and complements the broader commissioning strategy of Sky Documentaries with news-adjacent films for streaming and television.

The unit will also “place a significant emphasis on forging partnerships with top talent from across the documentary industry.”

David Rhodes, Executive Chairman of Sky News Group, said: “This new production unit with Siobhan Sinnerton at the helm will epitomise the premium offering from Sky News. We see tremendous editorial and commercial opportunities in long-form journalism online and on TV.  We’re very fortunate to have Siobhan guiding and developing a slate of bold projects as the new Creative Director of Full Story Films.”

About her new role, Siobhan Sinnerton said: “I am delighted to be offered this incredible opportunity to make films that say something important about the tumultuous world we are living in. Pulling on the incredible journalism of Sky News, and partnering with the best talent in the independent sector, I believe we can make powerful, emotional films that really connect with an audience. Sky has a great reputation for gaining access to the biggest stories or our time, and working with the UK and Ireland’s best Directors, producers and editors, we aim to translate that into engaging premium Documentaries that cut through the noise.”
