Channel 4 has hired Nicola Brown as Commissioning Editor to the Specialist Factual team. The Factual commissioning team is overseen by Head of Factual Danny Horan.

Brown joins from Shine TV where she held the position of Head of Documentaries. Here she was responsible for overseeing documentary strategy, developing new ideas, managing relationships and pitching to all the major broadcasters. Also as Executive Producer she has overseen Channel 4 shows including The Island with Bear Grylls, Hunted and Celebrity Hunted.

She previously made the original pilot and first series of the BAFTA nominated and Grierson award-wining The Secret Life of 4,5 & 6 Year Olds for RDF as well as Educating Cardiff for TwoFour. Other credits include The Sound of Musicals (Fresh One Productions) and 24 Hours in A&E (The Garden Productions).

Danny Horan says: ‘I am delighted Nicola will be joining the Factual team. Her impressive career of developing and delivering huge returnable series with proper content means she is the perfect addition and I hope shows our commitment to finding the next generation of big series that have impact, scale and ambition.’

Nicola Brown says: ‘I have had a wonderful time at Shine working with an exceptionally talented and hard-working team. I’m thrilled to be joining C4 at such an exciting time, and look forward to working closely with Danny, and independent producers to continue to bring bold, creative and innovative ideas to the screen.’
