Roughcut TV has promoted Alex Smith to Head of Comedy, to drive the company’s development slate and production output.

Smith launched his career in the industry as a series script editor on long-running dramas The Bill and Waterloo Road, later becoming Development Producer for Bentley Productions.

He has produced Roughcut shows such as Trollied and Carters Get Rich, since he joined the company five years ago.

He replaces Dan Hine as Head Of Comedy. Hine continues to work at Roughcut as exec producer on Cuckoo and developing Roughcut projects in America.

Ash Atalla, Managing Director, Roughcut TV said: “Alex has one of the smartest script minds I’ve worked with so there was no question that he would become Roughcut’s new head of comedy. He will lead our development and production teams as we continue to grow our UK and international business. My only issue is that he’s often better dressed than me, and in truth I find that disrespectful.”

Since its launch in 2007, Roughcut has established itself as one of the UK’s leading comedy producers with credits including Cuckoo, Trollied, People Just Do Nothing and I Live With Models.
