A fire alert at Red Bee Media was responsible for loss of service on a number of TV channels on Saturday evening.

Channels affected including Channel 4, Channel 5, the BBC and ITV. The fire alarm went off around six pm on Saturday, with knock on effects. On the BBC play-out was re-routed via Salford. Channel 4 was taken off air for at least 20 minutes.

Red Bee, said that “an activation of the fire suppression systems” at its broadcast centre in West London were to blame. “As a result of this incident ant the automatic safety measures set in motion at the time, several services originating from the broadcast centre have been disrupted.”

Red Bee issued statements via Twitter. The latest statement, issued on Sunday morning, said that they were “investigating what triggered the fire suppression systems.”
