Raw is in production on a new Netflix documentary film about one of the world’s most elaborate and sophisticated catfish scams.
Based on the popular podcast series of the same name from Tortoise Media, the feature film will tell the story of how broadcaster Kirat Assi became embroiled in a complex web of deception that lasted for over a decade and involved over 60 fabricated characters
When Kirat meets ‘Bobby’ on Facebook and embarks on a long-distance relationship with him, she believes she has found the love of her life. As it evolves from a friendship to an increasingly controlling romantic relationship, Kirat becomes subsumed into a web of deception, as Bobby’s explanations for why they cannot meet face to face become more and more extreme. What unfolds is a modern-day fable about some of the dangers of finding love in the digital age
The film is directed by Lyttanya Shannon (Subnormal: A British Scandal), executive produced by Rebecca North (American Nightmare) and produced by Kiran Sira (Murder, Mystery and My Family).
