Pulse Films has signed Academy Award winning director James Marsh to its director roster for global representation.

Writer and director of documentary, narrative feature films, scripted TV and commercials, James Marsh has won awards including Academy Awards, EMMY’s and BAFTA’s.

His documentary Man on Wire won the Oscar for Best Documentary, a BAFTA for Best British Film and an Independent Spirit award. The Theory of Everything won the best british film BAFTA, marking Marsh’s second win in the category, and Best Actor at the Academy Awards for Eddie Redmayne’s portrayal of Stephen Hawking. The film also went on to win three Golden Globe awards.

In 2015 Marsh directed part of the HBO series The Night of, starring Riz Ahmed and John Turtorro – and was nominated for an EMMY for his work.

Marsh’s most recent film, The Mercy, with Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz, is released in February 2018. The film tells the true story of Donald Crowhust, an amateur sailor who entered the first race to circumnavigate the globe in 1968.

He is currently finishing up post production on The King of Thieves – a film inspired by a real-life security vault robbery in London undertaken by a bunch of geriatric criminals. The film features Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay and Ray Winstone.

Alongside his big screen work, Marsh is a director of commercial campaigns for global brands including Audi, Coca Cola and BBC.

James Marsh commented: “Pulse is the ideal company for me.  Their diverse interests and belief in the power of the visual image reflect my own identity as a filmmaker.  It’s a company that gives filmmakers a bridge into the future of all visual storytelling.”

Davud Karbassioun, Global President of Commercials & Branded added: “I’ve been a big fan of James’ work over the years.  He has a uniquely versatile and considered approach to storytelling across multiple formats.  He blurs the lines between fact, fiction and feeling.  His interests and experience across multiple film formats and genres plays perfectly into our model and wider ambitions.  Pulse Films are so proud to be in his corner.”
