ITV Studios-owned Plimsoll Productions is launching digital division, Plimsoll Digital.
The company has appointed longtime Plimsoll executive Ged Mansfield as Creative Director of Development and Digital to lead the unit. Mansfield will report directly to Alan Eyres, Head of PlimsollUSA.
Plimsoll Digital will develop digital formats and explore emerging technologies, “looking at responsible uses for generative AI to empower creatives, all to advance the company’s legacy of visually rich storytelling with editorial integrity.”
Using an archive of programming and never-before-seen footage across natural history, adventure, documentary, and factual entertainment, Mansfield will work closely with ITV Studios’ digital content label Zoo 55, which manages Plimsoll’s presence on YouTube and FAST channels.
Previously, Mansfield served as Creative Director of Development. Mansfield has helped secure commissions for many of Plimsoll’s series including the Emmy winning A Real Bug’s Life (Disney+/National Geographic), Tiny World (Apple TV+), Animal (Netflix), as well as the upcoming Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters (ITV1) and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston (Disney +/Nat Geo).
“Ged’s unique ability to combine vision, production expertise and compelling narratives makes him the ideal leader to craft narratives that captivate audiences across platforms,” says Alan Eyres, Head of Plimsoll USA. “His promotion underscores his exceptional leadership and our commitment to embracing new tools and formats to amplify authentic stories.”
“This is an exciting new chapter — not just for me, but for the way we think about content,” says Mansfield. “The future of storytelling demands original ideas and thoughtful innovation. We want to create room for our best-in-class creatives to experiment and push the boundaries of what we consider possible in visual storytelling.”
Plimsoll Productions recently earned four Emmy Awards for A Real Bug’s Life (Disney+/National Geographic) has upcoming series Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters (ITV), The Child Who Caught a Killer (Sky One) and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston (Disney+/National Geographic).
