Pact has launched its Indie Diversity Scheme in Scotland.
Six Scottish indies – STV Productions, Tern TV, IWC, Lion, Raise The Roof and Mentorn Media – are welcoming talented diverse young people to work in their companies for six months.
They will provide them with a mentoring, training and networking plan to allow them to continue their career in production at the end of the six month period. The Scottish scheme follows the success of the UK-wide scheme launched by Pact in 2013 which set out to increase access to television production to those from underrepresented groups.
The programme was developed with indies working collectively to improve, nurture and develop new diverse talent.
Of the 44 people who have taken part in the scheme, 38 have continued with their careers in television production.
John McVay, Chief Executive of Pact, said: “The Indie Diversity Scheme in Scotland highlights our commitment to supporting the creation of sustainable and diverse talent bases in the Nations and Regions.”
The Pact scheme is fully funded by the companies involved and as well as offering a bespoke combination of training, mentoring and pastoral care, Pact tracks its alumni and offers pastoral help beyond the six month training period.
Alan Clements, Head of Content at STV Productions, said: “We are proud to be part of Pact’s new training scheme in Scotland. We are working with other Scottish indies to fund the initiative to provide a supported route into the industry for diverse new entrants.”
