A host of British talent and UK companies were honoured with gongs at last night’s Oscars.

Gary Oldman won his first Oscar for his portrayal of Churchill in Darkest Hour. British special effects make-up artist Lucy Sibbick won in the Best makeup and hair category for the film alongside Kazuhiro Tsuji and David Malinowski.

DoP Roger Deakins also finally won his first Best Cinematography Oscar after having been nominated 14 times in the past. He picked up the award for his stunning work on Blade Runner 2049.

The same film won in the best vfx category. A number of UK vfx houses had a part in the film including Framestore, Double Negative, MPC and Territory Studio.

There was also a win for former Hollyoaks stars Rachel Shenton and Chris Overton who won the live action short category for their film The Silent Child.
