Nordic indie MOPAR Studios has appointed Sharon Remmer Creative Director, Drama.

Remmer will help grow the company’s slate as well as oversee all dramas in production. As Head of MOPAR UK, Remmer will have the additional responsibility of running the UK operation, as MOPAR seeks to expand further into the English-language market.

She brings over thirty years of production and development expertise working across popular UK domestic productions such as Bad Girls and Holby City as well as global streamer hits such as The Man in the High Castle and Medici: Masters of Florence. Most recently, Remmer set up her own company – SR StoryWorks – to develop high-end drama with an emphasis on diversity and original voices.

William Diskay said: “We are delighted to have Sharon as part of the MOPAR team. She brings her extensive experience of producing home-grown English-language drama as well as hands-on expertise of developing scripted series on a global scale for major SVoD players like Amazon and Netflix. I know that she will build on the foundations we have in place and will help to elevate and advance our growth plans including our expansion into the UK market.”

Sharon Remmer added: “I am thrilled to be joining Mopar Studios who have already established themselves as a major player on a pan European level and share a vision of bringing high quality original drama to a global audience.”

Remmer’s career spans all areas of development, script editing and production, including stints as producer on BBC in-house dramas including Holby City and Down to Earth. She was also Script Editor for Yorkshire Television’s Heartbeat and Head of Development for Stephen Fry and Gina Carter’s Sprout Pictures. She was Head of Drama for Big Light Productions where she served as Executive Producer for Medici: Masters of Florence for Rai/Netflix and co-Executive Producer for Amazon Prime’s The Man in the High Castle and The Indian Detective for Bell Media/Netflix. As Creative Director at Green Pavilion, Remmer worked alongside MGM and ITV Studios and generated a slate of projects for the international and domestic markets.

Over the last year, MOPAR Studios has focussed on developing and producing contemporary English-language thrillers with international cast and broad global appeal. Its latest espionage title, Red Election, is one of Viaplay’s top five international Originals to date, while North Sea Connection about a local fishing family caught up in a deadly game of drug smuggling has just wrapped in Ireland and is currently in post-production.  In October, MOPAR Studios announced a new partnership with Newen Connect that will see the French producer and distributor source co-production funding and distribute two projects from MOPAR’s upcoming slate: 9th Dynasty and The Walls Between Us.
