Kate Ward, Managing Director, BBC Studios Factual Productions has announced that Nicola Pinn is stepping up to the new role of Chief Operating Officer.

Also, Katie Benbow has been made Director of Strategy.

Formerly Director of Production within the factual productions, Pinn will continue take on an expanded role to lead on production and business management across the Factual portfolio at BBC Studios as well as all aspects of financial and creative goals, governance, and the delivery of key strategic partnerships.

On the appointments, Kate Ward, Managing Director, BBC Studios Factual Productions says: “I could not be more delighted that Nicola has agreed to take on this extra responsibility, her vast experience and range of her impact is matched by her deep passion for our productions, our people and our values. I have no doubt that in her expanded role she will continue to ensure that our factual portfolio continues to thrive.”

Ward has also appointed Katie Benbow as Director of Strategy with a focus on content strategy, content investment, planning and insights. She will work closely with BBC Studios partners in Global Media and Streaming and will also take on the management of the Indie Partnerships team led by Tom Young.

“Katie’s deep knowledge of the production market, experience across production, distribution and branded services, and love of the factual genre make her the perfect strategic lead for us as we look to deliver our ambitious plans for the future.”

 Both take up the roles with immediate effect.

BBC Studios’ factual portfolio includes natural history series like Planet Earth III (BBC) and soon to air Mammals (BBC); documentaries, such as Inside Our Autistic Minds (BBC), Sarah Everard: The Search For Justice (BBC), The Met (BBC), The Great Rhino Robbery (Sky) and Uncanny (BBC) and science shows like Our Universe (BBC) and Einstein And the Bomb (Netflix) as well as wholly owned label Voltage TV who make Scoop (Netflix)and Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job (BBC).
