Documentary indie, Curious Films, has promoted Nicky Varley from Head of Production to Managing Director.

Since joining Curious Films at its inception in 2018, Varley has “overhauled production processes, provided valuable insight, grown the team, and built the operational infrastructure that underpins the company’s ability to deliver ambitious projects at pace.”

In 2026, Curious Films achieved record turnover. This summer, Curious launched A Toxic Love Story, which went straight to No. 1 in the Netflix UK and US charts. On 12th August, Spy Next Door: The Anna Chapman Story launches on Channel 4, the true story of Russian spy Anna Chapman, executive produced by Dov Freedman and Andrew Slater, Head of Development. In September, Curious have their debut series for Hulu, “a US true crime thriller ripped from the headlines.” Later in 2026 comes One for the Road, a one-off documentary that takes fans behind the scenes as Boyzone prepare for their final reunion, following the success of Boyzone: No Matter What, the record-breaking Sky Original three-part documentary.
