MTV International has greenlit new series, The Lovers and The Liars, from Lime Pictures.
The reality format follows couples, as they compete for a minimum £50k cash prize. The 10 x 60-minute series is set to air across MTV’s network of more than 60 international channels and digital platforms, spanning almost 180 countries, later this year.
It’s billed as a show with a twist, “as not all of the relationships are real and the couples have to figure out who the ‘liars’ are amongst them.” Shot on location in Tuscany, the contestants will take part in a series of relationship tests and must vote out a couple each episode.
Craig Orr, VP Commissioning and Development, MTV International, commented: “This is an exciting new area for us. Not only does this reality format examine what a relationship looks like in 2018, with an incredibly exciting and diverse cast, but it also has a massive hook for those watching at home trying to guess who the real couples are through the many twists and turns of the series.”
Head of non-scripted programming for Lime Pictures, Sarah Tyekiff said; “We’re thrilled to be producing a brand new format for MTV that gives us the opportunity to see a very different cast take part in a competitive reality show. If you’re real Lovers it doesn’t matter what kind of relationship you’re in, as long as you’re genuinely in love. For the Liars, well anything goes. We’re really excited to be bringing something so trail blazing to MTV and we’re confident the viewers are in for something totally different because they won’t be told who’s real and who’s fake. This show gives us real insight into modern day relationships, people’s opinions of them, and a great play along at home.”
The show has been co-commissioned for MTV International and MTV UK by Craig Orr and Kerry Taylor, EVP, Youth and Music, Viacom International Media Networks and will be Executive Produced by Sarah Tyekiff.
The Lover and The Liars is the fourth MTV International commission from a UK indie this year, following Beach Body SOS, The Charlotte Show and recently announced Million Dollar Baby.
