Neal Street Productions is to make a new comedy pilot, The Franchise, for HBO.

The pilot episode of The Franchise, will be directed by Neal Street’s Sam Mendes as well as executive produced by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci.

The Franchise, a half hour comedy, follows a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero movie-making. If and when they finally make the day, the question they must face — is this Hollywood’s new dawn or cinema’s last stand? Is this a dream factory or a chemical plant?

The pilot episode story is by Jon Brown, Keith Akushie and Armando Iannucci, and will be written by Jon Brown and Keith Akushie.

The show will be executive produced for Neal Street by Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown and Julie Pastor, and will be produced by Neal Street for HBO.
