No.8 has appointed Absolute Post’s Matt Turner as its new Creative Director of Colour.

Turner will join No.8 this week and head up the Colour Grading department. In his new role, he will work across all agencies and production companies.

Turner began his career at The Mill and has held Senior Colourist positions at Framestore and Company 3, before becoming Head of Colour at Rushes in 2010.

He will join No.8 from Absolute Post where he has been the Head of Colour for the past 12 years.

During his career, he has worked on campaigns for clients including Guinness, BMW, Sony Playstation, YSL, Bulgari, and Samsung, and with directors such as Baz Luhrmann, Frank Budgen, Dougal Wilson, Otto Bathurst, and Daniel Kleinman.

Turner’s work has featured heavily across various awards shows including British Arrows, D&AD, Cannes Lions and Creative Circle. He has featured on Televisual’s Top 10 Best Colourists list every year for more than a decade.

At No.8 he will focus on colour grading work worldwide for commercials, episodic TV, feature films, and music videos.

Turner said “Having admired No.8’s meteoric rise over just a few short years I was both flattered and excited to be contacted by former colleague and long time friend Barny. Their profile, ethic, creativity and strong identity has put them streets ahead of long established post houses already and the prospect of contributing to that mix is thrilling. Having the opportunity to build a department from scratch is a rare thing indeed and I can’t wait to get started with the new team, to integrate into the company and cross-pollinate creativity with the other departments.”

Commenting on the new hire, Barny Wright, Managing Director at No.8, said: “Matt is one of the most talented, respected and liked Colourists in the industry. His career and body of work is second to none and he is the perfect choice to lead the colour team at No.8 as we continue to grow.

“The fact Matt has been a permanent fixture in the Televisual Top 10 Colourists list since its conception shows not only how much talent he has but also his ability to stay relevant and keep producing fresh work all the time. Matt also has a history of working with and developing new talent and giving others the ability to shine and we are excited about extending the team further under his creative direction.

“I have known Matt for a long time and I’m really excited to get to work together again, he really understands our ‘better together’ principle of collaborative craft across audio, colour and VFX and how it’s vital to treat people the right way and foster a culture of inclusivity and team values.”
