Buckinghamshire Council’s Strategic Sites Committee has refused plans to build the proposed Marlow Film Studios near the A404 near Little Marlow.

The committee made the decision following six hours of debate last week.

The proposed £3.5bn studio complex, led by CEO Robert Laycock, included plans to invest over £20m in local infrastructure but was met with strong objections from local residents and environmental campaigners.

The studio had received backing from major film industry figures including Titanic director, James Cameron, who wrote to the council saying he saw the proposed studio as a potential base for his film technology development outfit, Lightstorm3D.

In October last year, Buckinghamshire councillors deferred a final decision on the proposed development to consider greenbelt land and traffic issues.

Marlow Film Studios is now considering its next steps.
