Netflix has ordered a new original documentary series from Scott Rudin Productions and Simon and Jonathan Chinn’s Lightbox.

The eight-part series is inspired by The New York Times Magazine’s long-running column, Diagnosis, written by Dr. Lisa Sanders.  Diagnosis (w/t), will follow patients with mysterious illnesses and join them on the journey to find a diagnosis and potentially, a cure.

Each medical mystery will be tackled by combining the power of global crowdsourcing, social media platforms and established medical expertise.  The cases will be curated by Dr. Lisa Sanders, who in addition to creating and writing the Diagnosis column for The New York Times, is an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine at Yale University.

The series is executive produced by Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush of Scott Rudin Productions; Jonathan Chinn, Simon Chinn and P.G. Morgan of Lightbox; and Jake Silverstein, Editor In Chief of The New York Times Magazine.
