Actor Laurence Fishburne is to star in anthology drama series Rendlesham for Eleventh Hour Films and Sony Pictures Television.
The eight-part paranormal series is inspired by the British-American UFO incident which took place at a US air base close to the village of Rendlesham, Suffolk in 1980. Drawing on reported events across dual timelines – from the time of the sightings in 1980, and looking ahead to 2020, the 40th anniversary.
Fishburne plays the leading role of Tyrone, a retired American airman previously stationed at the US air base during the height of the Cold War. Alongside wife Carol and son Brock, Tyrone returns for the first time to visit Carol’s dying father and is forced to face events that have haunted him his whole life.
Fishburne will also executive produce alongside his Cinema Gypsy Productions and producing partner Helen Sugland. Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green will serve as executive producers for EHF alongside Joe Ahearne (“The Replacement,” “Doctor Who”), who is also writing and is set to direct the series. SPT will handle distribution internationally.
“I’m beyond thrilled this phenomenal and iconic actor will be leading ‘Rendlesham’ as Tyrone and facing down one of the most notorious UFO mysteries in history," said Ahearne.
Led by Jill Green, Eve Gutierrez, Paula Cuddy and Nicole Finnan, EHF has produced such series as “Foyle’s War” for ITV, “New Blood” for BBC One, “Vexed” for BBC Two and, most recently, two seasons of ITV’s “Safe House.”
EHF and SPT are also currently producing young-adult drama series “Alex Rider” based on the best-selling YA novels, as well as developing drama “The Caine Mutiny”, adapted by Anthony Horowitz from the Pulitzer Prize Novel by Herman Wouk. SPT recently acquired a minority stake in EHF.
